House Hunting

DH and I want to get out of renting as soon as possible so we have been looking around at houses and getting loan quotes. We found an amazing house here in San Angelo but unfortunately we don't qualify for enough to buy it. DH has about $50,000 in student loans and even though they are in non repayment they are counting towards his income to debt ratio and brings down his loan quote to about $50,000. The house we like so much is priced at $89,900. It is a large house on 3 plots with a nice sized back yard. Unfortunately we won't be getting the house unless the sellers get desperate enough to drop the price in half. :o) They did however have an aspect of the house that we could take with us.

The owners, we found out, moved to San Antonio and left their elderly Chow Chow behind. They said he was too old to travel, but I think he just needs a hair cut. He moves around really well; I think his hair is just matted enough that he can't move around well enough. Once we have the space for him I plan on asking the family if we can adopt him. I'm gonna take him in immediately to my vet to have him immunized and to get his matted hair shaved off and check him for "hot spots" that Chows tend to get. They tend to get these "hot spots" when their fur is matted and dirt can't escape and rubs against the skin. I am so tempted to go pick him up today but I would hate to take him away from his nice sized yard and bring him to our apartment with a small backyard area.

Working Man

DH is working at Sam's Club right now. He started out in the meat department wrapping the meat products but after only 3 weeks on the job they asked him if he wanted a full time position working at the rotisserie. He now works the rotisserie cooking chickens and ribs. He told me last night that he will be getting a raise in the next couple weeks. I had some good news of my own.

McKinney, Texas is hiring police officers. Why is this good news? DH's degree is in criminal justice and to get into federal criminology you really need several years in local policing. Also his grandparents live in McKinney and we are just waiting on when he can transfer to a Sam's Club out there to be near them. We both prefer the Dallas area to West Texas and can't wait to move out there. At $43,000 a year starting it seems like the perfect job. Even if it doesn't work out, he is doing well at Sam's and they do have amazing benefits!

Either way things are going well financially. My career goal of opening my own in home daycare will have to wait until we find out whether he got the job in McKinney or not. If we move there we will buy a house soon and I will open the daycare once we are settled. If we stay here we plan on renting a house where I can open my daycare. I will be taking care of three infants up to 18 months old in my home during the day. We'll keep you updated on the police job. Hopefully we will know in the next 3 or 4 months. The wedding will be in 3 months!

A Little Back Story

Let's see. It's always best to start in the beginning. DH and I met in the Fall semester of 2003. He was my boyfriend's best friend in Reserve Officer Training Corps at Angelo State University. We hated each other. He took time away from my boyfriend and I, (I now know) my boyfriend made me out to be quite the bitch. After a couple more years of trouble with my boyfriend and then fiance, Tyler we finally decided we weren't in love anymore and broke it off. During that time DH and I became friends and after Tyler and I called it off we dated casually.

In December of 2006 DH was at home in Dallas and I was in Midland visiting family. We were talking on the phone one night and he told me he missed me and asked me to call him every night so we could talk. To DH, this was a big thing! He absolutely hates talking on the phone. When we got back to San Angelo we started dating exclusively. On February 16th of 2008 he asked me to be his wife. It really wasn't much of a surprise since he was trying to decide what to do with his life and was asking my input, but I was expecting him to take another year to ask. A short four months later and here we are today.

At this time our family includes, Shadow, a 1 year old Korat, Butterscotch, a 1 year old Basset Hound, and Gremlin, a 3 month old Domestic Short Hair kitten who is red and white but looks black and white unless he is in bright daylight. They are our babies. We are hoping to adopt an elderly Chow Chow soon. We are only waiting because we don't have a yard large enough for him yet. But there is promise of possibly getting a police officer job in McKinney, Texas soon so we hope to bring him with us. I will talk more about him and the new job in future posts. Keep reading!
