Blogging for a Cure!

This is a cause very near and dear to my heart.  Jakie Reitz is participating in the Susan G Komen 3 Day for the Cure for her second year.  This year she is trying something new and, I think, amazing!  She is blogging about her experience and asking her blogging friends to do the same.  She has pledged to donate at least $10 to the cause and is asking those who blog to do the same.  I have made this pledge too.  I am asking for you to donate whatever you are able for research to cure breast cancer.  She was estimating only 300 blogs to participate.  If even one person donates $10 from each of those blogger's reader list then we will have raised $3,000 toward finding a cure!  If all the blog writers donate as well, that makes it $6,000.  We all know how the blogging community works...I think she'll have more than 300 blogs donating for the cause.  All donations are made directly to her sponsor page here and are all tax deductible for the 2010 tax year.  Thank you for donating!

The reason I am so passionate about this cause is because I come from a long line of breast cancer survivors.  Nearly every woman on my birth mother's side of the family, besides her and myself, have fought breast cancer.  Almost all lost their breasts to the battle.  Just last week I received an e-mail from my birth mom.  My birth grandmother has stage 3 breast cancer and goes in at the end of May to have a complete mastectomy.  My adopted grandmother also had both of her breasts removed from breast cancer.  My husband jokes that when I buy EVERYTHING "Pink Stuff" {and I do buy EVERYTHING} I am just investing in my future.  He is just trying to make lite of the very real possibility that we will be fighting this battle ourselves someday.  It really is investing in my future I am afraid.  With the rate of women in my family with breast cancer, the only reason I wouldn't get it is if God keeps it from me.  So you can see why I jump at any opportunity to raise awareness, donate, and contribute to this cause.  It has been out there so long that people forget how important it is.  I think we see the little pink ribbons and items and think "Oh yeah, breast exams, yada yada yada..." but the only way to keep research going is to keep talking about it and donating what little bit we can afford.  I hope y'all can donate something to this cause.  I'm sorry it is sort of a somber post but thanks for reading about this extremely important event anyways.  I hope y'all have a blessed day.
