Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is

In the last five or so years I've probably spent several thousand dollars on stuff, (okay let's be honest...) crap, to decorate our house with. Now, since I hate spending more than $10 on any one item... you can imagine how much "stuff" I have acquired. Anytime I feel stressed, lonely, hurt, or depressed I go out and buy something warm, comforting {and usually pink} for the house.  Now I sit in an undecorated house with piles of shabby chic decorations cluttering up the place.  Eventually I'll get everything unpacked, put away and decorated, but for now... it's just clutter, pretty clutter.

We've decided it's time I put our money where our hearts are and stop spending on the house.  As much as I'd like our home to look like a picture perfect magazine house {when guests come over that is...}, it obviously isn't my top priority.  If it were, I'd have gotten it in shape already.  No, I think it is time that we invest in something more important that our home's appearance, our own.  DH and I have decided that we'll be saving money each month to allow him a one hour, full body massage and a pedicure with leg and foot massage for myself.

I've always been against eating out, buying flowers, and getting spa treatments for myself because they seem so wasteful.  You spend all that money on something that lasts less than an hour in most cases and then you have nothing to show for it.  Now that I am older, have a household to run, and the stress of a new baby on my mind and heart, I have come to decide... I'll just take photos!  It might only take an hour to have my nails or hair done, but the refreshing feeling and sense of confidence in myself afterward will be well worth it.  And, I'll just take photos each month so I can look back on all my fun pedicures and not feel as though they were a waste of money.  {I'm thinking I might do some fun colors and designs seeing as how it'll be winter and no one will see my toes anyways.  My first will be a classic french pedicure though.  I love that natural look! Plus, it's not too cold for flip flops and open toed heels just yet...}

What do you splurge on to make you feel better?

Pink Blessings

Today we are celebrating a miracle and sharing uplifting and positive pinks.  This cause hits close to home for me since every woman over 45 in my family has had breast cancer.  Some lost their battle, some, like my grandmother are fighting it today.  Here are some photos that inspire me to search for the blessings in this disease.
Spending quality time with loved ones.
Keeping good communication with friends and family.
Fighting for a cause and never giving up!

For each comment recieved on these sites, $1 will be donated to make another Miracle Makeover possible:

Here is a video of the last amazing miracle makeover!

Bed Frame Storage

This bed frame is so cool!
It's made by West Elm.  You pull the bed right up and store things inside the bed.  No more ugly boxes underneath.  Of course, storage boxes are cheaper than a new bed... but this bed is cheap enough that if you are shopping for a new bed frame, it's an awesome option.  What do you think?  Worth the $800 for the wood and storage option?

We aren't in the market for a new bed frame, but if we were, I think I'd get this one.  I'm trying to find ways to store all the crap we own when we don't need it.  I'm getting rid of a lot of it, but we still have to keep complete sets of hot and cold weather gear while in Alaska.  What are your storage solutions?

Sitting Pretty

We've been practicing sitting on our own.  I think he's practiced enough...He's giving me attitude!  Check out those eyebrows.  He's such a flirt!

I even tried my hand at some photo enhancement. I think I need to enhance the blue in his eyes a bit more next time.  What do you think?

Goodbye Pink Summer, Hello Pink Fall

Spring and Summer have come and gone... I'm sad to see the flowers wilt and the leaves turn brown...

But I rejoice in the cool breeze of the fall, the reds, oranges, and golds of the leaves, and the promise of nights snuggled warmly with my husband and son.
{This is not our bed... but doesn't it look comfy?!}

Feeding my 8 Month Old

I have a question for all you moms out there.  We just started feeding LB stage 2 baby foods because I have a lot of allergies and we wanted to hold off a couple extra months.  He is 8 months old now and eats about 5-6 bottles a day, 8oz each.  He also has about one jar of baby food a day.  I was looking up how much he should be eating (looked up 6 month because he just started solids) and I keep reading only 3 bottles of 8oz, and one jar of food 3xs a day.  Is that right, 3 bottles and 3 jars?!  Should he be eating half the formula he was supposed to be eating a month ago when he wasn't eating solid foods?  I am going to call his nurse tomorrow and see what they suggest but I wanted your opinions too.

How much formula and baby food do (did) you give your 6-8 month old?

New Pink Beginnings

Just one pink for this week.  This week is full of changes.  I am eating more healthily, standing with more self respect in my posture, and looking at myself through my husband's eyes.  Things are looking up and I am living the feeling of pink!

Look at this smile!

I have some new pics of Little Bit I just have to share with y'all!  Look at these faces!
Look at those eyebrows!
This boy is going to cause a lot of stress in my life I think... Look at that face!
Can you find the baby?  *Hint* He's wearing Camo and is facing away from you!
Look at him all lounging in that stroller drinking his lunch!
Like father, like son...

Our Puppy is Here!

Here he is!!!  He is so much smaller than his other pictures made him look.  He is so adorable!
(I had to put this one in... lol)
He's a hyper little guy!  It took several shots to get pictures of him...that's why he's napping in most of them.  They first night we got him we stared at each other and said... does it ever sleep?!

A Dandelion On the Wind

My husband gave me this analogy last night and I feel it’s very true.  He said to me:

I'm a drifter, like a tumbleweed.  I don't have roots anymore.  I just tumble along wherever the wind carries me.  I've lost touch with all my friends and family.  I long to set down roots and call a place my home but I am compelled to move forward.

You, you are like a dandelion though.  You are a beautiful flower that can grow anywhere and flourish.  When our time at one place ends and we have to move on the flowering part of you drifts off peacefully into the wind to settle elsewhere but your roots stay behind.  Every time we pick up and move a piece of you stays behind in your friendships and the people's lives you touch.

With teary eyes I agreed but said that it can cause heartache too.  Leaving behind friends is one thing but when I open my heart to people they tend to break it.  I'm a very sensitive person and get embarrassed if I haven't called a friend in a while or upset if an acquaintance says something negative about me.  Sometimes I wish I had a duck's back for words of hatred to roll off like my husband.

He held me close, laughed, and added that Dandelions are prolific as well, while glancing over at our newborn son slumbering next to us.
